Return Journey of Lazarus
Luke 16:27-28 "He answered, 'Then I beg you, father, send Lazarus to my father's house, for I have five brothers. Let him warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.'
[Beg] What a contras his life on earth and his life in hell is been. In his earthly he was a rich man but in eternity he is begging father Abraham a favour from Lazarus.
[Send] God sent His Son…He provided a way to heaven (Jn 3:16) and Jesus commanded His disciples to ‘go’ make disciples (Mt 28:19). Wherever they ‘went’ they preached the Gospel (Acts 8:4).
[My father’s house] The greatest desire one can have for his family is their salvation. We need to do whatever we can from our side to see our loved ones saved. One likes to have their family to be with them where ever they are but not if one is in hell. The rich man is in hell in torment and agony and cries to Abraham to send Lazarus to his father’s house so that his brothers also will not come to be with him in hell.
[Warn them] May bear "witness" to them, or may inform them of what is my situation, and the dreadful consequences of the life that I have led. It is remarkable that he did not ask to go himself. He knew that he COULD NOT be released, even for so short a time. His condition was fixed. Yet he had no wish that his friends should suffer, and he supposed that if one went from the dead they would hear him. (Barnes)
A young minister, returning to his home late one evening after conducting a service some miles distant, entered a crowded bus, having his Bible under his arm. Some of the passengers, rough fellows, poked fun at the young man, and one of them shouted at him in a derisive way, “Say, Mister, how far is it to heaven?” The minister in soft spoken tones and with gracious manner, replied, “It is only one step Sir. Will you not let me show you the way?”
Passenger’s Manual
Luke 16:29-31 “Abraham replied, 'They have Moses and the Prophets; let them listen to them.' "'No, father Abraham,' he said, 'but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.' "He said to him, 'If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.'"
Moses and the Prophets is the Book that contains information and instructions of the how to take a flight to heaven.
Voltaire gathered all the Bibles he could find and burned them. Today in the very house where he lived, a Bible Society has four presses, publishing thousands of Bibles every year in several languages.
Martin Luther said “Bible is alive, it speaks to me; it has feet, it runs after me; it has hands, it lays hold of me.
There is nothing that can substitute the scriptures. For in Heb 4:11-13 it says “For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” if we are not convinced by the Word of God we cannot be convinced by anything. That is the reason why it is so important to use the scriptures in witnessing.
The key is to ‘Listen’ to Moses and the Prophets. It involves action, it is not passive but it is active. It is either obedience or disobedience. First we need to hear, next we need to heed (to what we hear).
When the rich man sad ‘no’ he is just like some of us who seek supernatural and believe that people will turn to the Truth when they see supernatural things happening. But Father Abraham did not think so.
Somebody said regarding Bible “Know it in your mind. Store it in your heart. Show it in your life. Sow it in the world. Can you hear the rich man Plea? In torment and agony he is crying, he is not crying for somebody to help him but he is crying for his family because he knows that his family has not accepted the salvation of God. He knows that they will land up to the same place where he is now. There is one who can help and it is you and me. The people whom you come across in life may be taking that flight to eternity…flight to hell; it can be your friend, your family or the person whom you know. Would you do something so that the person will take another flight…flight to heaven.
" Jesus Cares for you "- 1 Peter 5:7
